Chinese acrobatics, Beijing style
When in Beijing you have to go and see the Chinese acrobats. This normally involves lots of plate spinning, balancing, tumbling and some sword or staff demos. We got all of that and more! The show was billed as acrobats and Shaolin monks. The Shaolin angle was a bit lack lustre though. The balancing acrobats were pretty amazing though. The whole show looked a little tired. The costumes were cheap and the sets over the top. Right at the end though things got interesting when a secondĀ curtain at the back of the stage and a huge iron ‘wall of death’ cage was revealed. Now I’ve seen this before at circuses and the like but usually only with two motorbikes involved… Bear in mind the riders here are all the Shaolin acrobats which perhaps explains why they weren’t the best Shaolin display I’ve ever seen.
